WHAT WILL I DO NOW?

First, now that I have an

independent building inspector's

report, I can draw a line under this whole sorry affair with the Murones and Pave-Crete.

I can get my driveway concreted properly by an honest tradesman who knows what he's doing.

I will try to get my money back from Mr Murone.

EVEN IF I DON'T GET A REFUND I INTEND TO ALERT AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE AND PREVENT THEM FROM FALLING INTO THE SAME TRAP

I'll take the following steps:

  1. Send a formal written request for a refund to Murone/Pave-Crete. ( Done - no response )

  2. Notify VCAT of the problem.

  3. Notify police of the problem, particularly Murone's alleged non-registration.

  4. Notify Consumer Affairs;    Consumer Action Law Centre;   Australian Tax Office; Victorian Building Practitioners Board; etc.

  5. Use Facebook and Twitter to spread the word as far as possible

  6. Send a letter with the link to this website to an extensive mailing list (full mailing list here)                                            which includes:

  • the media including A Current Affair, The Checkout; The Age, The Herald Sun

  • The board of directors and senior executives of Stockland, Metricon and other builders/land developers/real estate companies

  • 'Find a Tradesman’ sites, particularly Home Improvement Pages (where I found Murone) asking them if they vet the tradesmen they list on their sites

  • Concreting/Building Industry Bodies including Concrete Institute of Australia;     MBAV;     VBA;     BAV;     Cement Australia;

  • Victorian Concrete Manufacturers and Concreters

  1.

There may be others whom I'll add as I discover them.
